I propose a thread honoring old age in which each person lists their current physical ailments and general excuses that prevent them from beating people like Paul Smith and Rich Saeger.
I will lead with a growing list of my own.
1. Shoulder pain
2. Heart palpatations
3. High cholesterol
4. Left hip stress fracture
5. Lower back pain (from shoveling snow!)
6. Wife and 3 kids.
Perhaps we can give an award to the winner and the biggest whiner at the end of this thread.
John Smith
I don't get any friggin naps that like Jim Clemmons guy. Too many kids.
I do know that challenge. That's why sometimes I leave work to get one - while they're at school it's a lot easier to catch some :snore: !

Well, this makes sense theoretically. But we have half day elementary school on Mondays and they're out at 3:15 the other days. If there is no school cancellation for a drop of snow or one of the ubiquitous school holidays. Plus, if one gets up at 7:00 or even 7:30, one doesn't want a nap until 4:00. That's when I start to drag. And that's when I'm overrun with children, homework, food demands, playdates, chauffeuring. I caught 30 minutes of :snore: between 6:00-6:30 just now. Ah. Now, I'm ordering dinner because my coach told me not to cook and Peter knows I am very obedient.
BTW, that GoodSmith fellow is very busy moving the 3 kids and 3 pets. I think he posted awhile ago that he was doing backstroke again?
I'd give anything to take a nap but like I said before, I am light sensitive; only can sleep if it is dark (must be a new disease not yet named).
I took today off from swimming because I could barely walk without limping. The reason: soreness and tightness in the legs (thighs and calves cramping) from yesterday's swim because of lack of hydration. Big, big problem for me and I do know now that Gatorade does not work. Ordered some products from Beth. Swim suit chafing for now is under control; a friend had a spandex top with spaghetti straps that are lambs wool. Perfect for now. I will do the Utila swim topless to make sure.
Legs are still blue and yellow though.

My years in the Army have taught me to sleep through anything! In vehicles going cross-country, airplanes getting shot at, people yelling and laughing in the same tent, soaking wet in a outside in torrential down pour (as long as no water runs down my neck), I especially love thunder storms/hurricanes when I'm at home. I even slept through a tornadoes (supposedly, by I guess it wasn't really that close, about 400m away)
My physical rehab from groin & back coming along ok, but still reluctant to really 'let 'er rip' on the breastroke kick, for the fear that it just might.
A bit of a whine though; my search for a decent job in the wake of closing the bookstore still yields little (Nanaimo's unemployment rate is twice the provincial average) and money very tight so have taken a ful-time graveyard shift at a department store stocking shelves (little more than minimum wage) to get some money flowing & still be available for interviews and my call-in job which pays twice as much, but not often. Only mentioning it 'cause I probably won't be on the forums much for awhile, so don't think I've disappeared or something. I trust the 'Attaboy' thread will be nurtured if I slip a bit in paying it the attention it deserves.
No wonder you're a "cranky old crock." It's very hard to go from dream job to figuring out what to do next, Biblioman. Hang in there. Keep swimming and interviewing. The swimming will help keep you sane. It sounds like you are going to become a night owl/Dracula. Don't be too absent!! Keep up the good work on rehab and breaststroke. I'm sure we won't let your thread die! :smooch:
