I was able to practice my starts last week with our HS Swim Team!!
WOW, talk about Day ja voo. Same HS, same coach, even swam in same lane as I did years ago...!
Starts went well, coach like my stroke. Back starts still need work.
Coach said they have 7th -9th grade and Varisty HS time trials on Tuesday if I want in on it, and an alumni meet with about 25 local master swimmers and HS Varisty. It's just a fun meet, 25yds, 100 yds, relay. He said I could do what ever I want it's up to me.
My 100 free just isn't where I want it just yet, so I'm thinking maybe to it just in the time trials. And stick to the 25, and 50's at the meet.
I did an easy practice yesterday, will go this afternoon and work harder, then go back to the HS pool on Monday to go over starts and turns again.
It was weird, I swim at the 'Y' same yardage as the HS pool, but at the pool I was puffn at 150 yds. Can do 500 at the 'Y'. I think it was just the aniexity I had going back after so many years.
Any sugguestion on how to prepare?

How exciting! I'm very proud of you because I know you've been training on your own. Practicing starts is great preparation because I too have had the goggle fiasco from sheer inexperience. Don't worry about it. Every meet is a learning experience for awhile. We're not all old pros here. Do a lot of 25s race pace with lots of rest in the next couple days. Practice your streamline and breakouts.
Just swim whatever events you want and feel comfortable with. You can start with 25s and 50s and do the 100 next time. Or try it now. But try not to feel pressure to do a particular time. I remember my first meet, I had no idea what times I would swim, so I was pleasantly surprised. You may be too because you looked pretty fast and smooth in the video I saw. Good for you! Enjoy yourself.
