I swear.. i just got a new suit less then 3 weeks ago and it is deteriorating faster then an SNL sketch. What to do?! :o
Do you rinse your suit out after each swim. Is there a lot of chlorine in your pool?
I haven't read anything about jammers lasting very long. I don't think they make them of durable material, but I could be wrong. I don't wear jammers so I don't keep up with the latest advancements.
The drag suit I wear has lasted for more than a year of swimming outdoors. Rinsing it helps, as does not leaving it in your bag.
Speedo is making training suits that last longer. Look into it.
i do rinse it. i'm not sure how much chlorine i have in my pool.. is there a way for me to check? my pants used to be black.. they're light grey now!
Sounds like the pool's chemistry is the main culprit. Not much you can do. I found that the polyester suits hold up a little better and last about twice as long as lycra.

HA!! What gives is the material . I am in full sun and saltwater 10 months out of the year and I go through, no kidding here, 30 suits a year and we can't buy swim suits here. I fly home to Texas and take 2 empty suitcases and fill 'em up with swim suits, shorts and sandals. I even rotate them all here and I use up more than 2 a month.
So now, I am down to one 2piece suit with 3 tops all with safety pins; nothing matches of course. Or, I will wear shorts and a cutoff T-shirt, really cut-off to swim in; great drag.
So swimming does eat our pants, I guarantee it.

Get a speedo "Endurance" suit (or the equivalent from another brand). These suits last for years. For a workout suit avoid anything containing any lycra.
I like wearing jammers in practice but they do wear down fast. I'm thinking about getting a drag suit but dont you have to wear a speedo breif under them?
I have been using the same Speedo Endurance Jammer for about a year now. Sometimes I rinse it and sometimes I don't. As far as I know, it is not showing through anywhere. Nobody has commented anyhow.
Another thing that I do is once I have two worn out suits that are too worn out to be worn alone, I wear them together. They aren't as see through anymore and it creates a lovely drag suit. And the combining the suits brings back some fabric tension that the suits no longer have alone so body parts aren't loose and flopping about.
Wear and repeat.
I've been known to wear up to four suits at once.

My experience is polyester suits hold up way, way better. Much longer than twice as long. An added bonus is the color never fades. I've been using my current workout suit exclusively since I bought it at SC Nationals in Ft. Lauderdale (May 2005). It's finally close to retirement. The suit itself is still fine. The weak link seems to be the stitching, which is unraveling. But, heck, hard to complain about getting 1.5-2 years out of a single suit.
Here's the kind I use: www.swimoutlet.com/.../1438.htm
