Back in the pool

Well, it's that time. End of another year spent overweight and out of shape. I'm done with this body. Time to go back into the pool. This time I will stick with it. Gonna follow the "zero-to-1 mile in 6 weeks" plan and go from there. Hard to believe I was an "A" swimmer circa 1983. :D Wish me luck....

I swam a continuous mile tonight for the first time. The best part is that I felt great doing it and felt like I could have gone on for a few hundred more yards. It's hard for me to believe that I was winded after swimming 300 yards in December. Goal number one (some endurance) accomplished. Goal number two involves developing speed. I'm a little embarrassed about how long it took me to swim that mile, but let's say I could knock 10 minutes off the time and I still wouldn't be competitve. I'm looking forward to the variety that workouts provide and the challenge of the pace clock. Goal three might involve competition: I went to a local masters meet just to check it out came away with two thoughts (1) this looks like a lot of fun and (2) I think I can do this if I work hard. It's hard to hang out with y'all and not get the bug. A big thank you to you all. I've never really felt alone working on this. Good Job Barb. I'll be seeing you at halfway meets in NJ then ;)
