You are a swimmer after my own heart! My only awards in swims so far have come when there is no one else in my age group. (First in a tough field of me, myself, and I....). ;) So I'm thinking the 100+ age group holds much promise. As for the other "IM" events, maybe we could do a relay, since the webmastering and 24 episodes aren't really my specialty. But hey beer swilling and procrastination... I'm SOOO there!
Fish:
Lots of people are the only one in their age group and therefore collecting awards. Just keep collecting! :) I think there are likewise lots of people attempting to outlast the competition through attrition! Nothing wrong with that either. I agree, NK French is a hoot. I don't know what strokes she swims, but I will fin race her. But not in that 1000 fly event she does!:p

I'd like to add that the 50 free record in the 100-104 age group is around 5 minutes ... that's my goal ... I'm only 26 so it'll take awhile ...

Heather:
You better get a new goal then. Because I suspect that record will be down to around 2:00 or 3:00 minutes by the time I get there ... way ahead of you. :joker:

Okay, just try not to take it under 2:00 ... a minute/25 seems reasonable ... though just doing a 50 at 100 might be difficult ... maybe I'll go for the butterfrog record :joker:
I believe that the other swimmers in your age group had the opportunity to enter those meets/events. A win is a win. A case in point--our little team here in New Bern competed in the 3000 yd National Postal Championships and placed 1st in the 45-49 Mens relay. Yes, we were the only relay team entered in that age group, but as far as I'm concerned it's a legitimate win. Besides, one of our swimmers on the relay was 60 (Bob Husson).
Absolutely ... in 2005 I was very new to masters and swam in the Illinois state meet. I finished second in my age group in the 400IM and the 1650 (I tried all events before convincing my coach and self that I was a sprinter). Only one other person swam those two events, I earned those silver medals because I had the guts to do those events even if my times were pathetic ... entering the arena is half the battle, and much more than most other people do ...
You guys are awesome! Thanks for the encouragement! I have to admit I enjoy and save my swimming awards... and especially two I got that were quite practical: a coffee mug (in the Rainbow Channel Challenge mile) and a beer glass (this was actually for a swim/run combo and my run kept the time down to reasonable levels... no competitors in 50-54, so the beer glass was mine to fill, and I filled it as promptly as I could!) :drink:
If any of you live in the Philly area, I'll be glad to meet you! Maybe even hoist a beer glass w/ you.... or (if you aren't light years ahead in your speed, ha ha) do a swim workout.... or an aquathlon....
Meanwhile, I think Beth and I are still holding hands on the 50 fly.
Fortress, that sounds like a great idea. Now which of your shoulders is hurt? Mine is the right so if yours is the lefts side......it might work!

Regarding the 3000 postal. I just found out that I made the top 10 in my age group (50-54) again. Even though there are only 20-30 in that group it's still an accomplishment.

Mine is the left, so we're good to go!!! Now, does anyone want to race our two good shoulders?
(Beth: This was really a reference to a previous message I left you on the "Which poster do you want to meet thread." You'll have to check that too.)
Who do you want to race? In what event? The race is on.
I'm challenging Richjb to a 50 ***. I'll even challenge Terry to a 50 butterfrog.
I challenge you to a 50 butterfly...:blah: :blah: :blah: :blah: :joker:
