In a crazy (and fruitless) attempt to recapture my youth, I do look forward to the holiday break when inevitably we all have at least one set or one practice where our master's coach throws us a doozy set (and we may have a 2 hour practice instead of the usual 1.5 hour practice) - in an attempt to either try and get us in shape or simply have a chuckle or help us justify eating that extra piece of fruitcake.
Does anyone have any crazy/ insanely long and challenging set they would like to share?
I'll start. We had sort of a post thanksgiving distance free set that we just did:
100 FR @ 1:15
200 FR @ 2:30
300 FR @ 3:45
400 FR @ 5:00
500 FR @ 6:15
Three times through. All on 1:15 pace. (Goal is to do eventually make at 1:10 pace).
Total yardage is 4500 for the set.
Has anyone done the 100x100s? And at what pace? I'm sort of interested in trying that.

We once did:
100 @ 2:00 (2:00 pace, 100 total)
200 @ 3:00 (1:30 pace, 300 total)
300 @ 4:00 (1:20 pace, 600 total)
400 @ 5:00 (1:15 pace, 1000 total)
500 @ 6:00 (1:12 pace, 1500 total)
600 @ 7:00 (1:10 pace, 2100 total)
700 @ 8:00 (1:08+ pace, 2800 total)
800 @ 9:00 (1:07+ pace, 3600 total)
900 @ 10:00 (1:06+ pace, 4500 total)
1000 @ 11:00 (1:06 pace, 5500 total)
The goal was to see how far you could get before missing the interval.

Rick,
At first glance, I was thinking, "That is so easy." Then, I read further. Ouch! I wonder how far I could get. Where did you make it to?!
Our master's team does a set of 100 x 50 @ :60 annually. This year it's scheduled for Saturday 12/16 @ 8am. Usually they'll mix in some stroke, IM, pull, etc. I've only participated 1 year (several years ago) but may consider it again this year. It's not hard to do, just a long time doing short distance.
In the spirit of insane holiday sets, I like the 12 50’s of Christmas.

That is an awesome set! I might have to try that one, will have to do it on my own. If I suggested to our coach to do that, I would be banished from the group.
I am planning a birthday (not a holiday unless your me) set that includes 4200 yds. fly
200 free warm up (i'll do this at 12spl)
200 fly on 4:00 (long and light about 2:45)
2x 100 fly on 1:50 (build... hold 1:20)
4x 50 fly on :50 (descend to :33)
4x 25 fly on :30 (alt. easy/sprint x25)
100 easy backstroke
Repeat six times.
2/13/07....mark your calenders.
Well enjoy that set. It really was not that bad with the exception of the 400IM's. I hate breaststroke and would have much rathered inserted fly in the breaststroke part of it.
This is the link of the uss meet I will be at, psych sheet and results when available.

I was at that meet too:)
in college we used to do 100 x 100s on new years eve every year.. we would do the first 10 on 1:40 as a team, and then everyone would finish on thir fastest possible sendoff
i tried to do them on 1:10 my senior year, but only made to #50, so 40 on 1:10 .. did the last 50 on 1:15..
mentally one of the toughest things ive done, but for some reason looked forward to it every year
soph year i hit a wall on #98.. it was absolutely riduculous.. did them almost all on 1:15 and 1:20, and on the last 3 i literally died.. i think i was like 1:00 on my last 50 of the last one
New Year's Eve morning, high school:
100 x 100's on 1:30
More tough mentally than anything. People started dropping off around 6K. If you made it to 8.5K or so, a second win kicked in. Actually pushed a :52 on #100!
Would be tough to push a :52 for one now! ;)
