I was self taught to swim and have never had a single lesson or instruction on how to swim. Now i wanna swim for the exercise and strength training; to strengthen my shoulders because weight lifting is hard on them. should i get lessons at 20 bucks an hour? books from library? any good websites? Im looking to take up swimming very seriously... it just seems like an exellent sport to build strong joints and exercise every muscle in your body. I think weight training and swimming could complement eachother very well. How did you learn to swim properly?

what should i get the instructor to teach me? how many lessons do i need you think? im already in good shape, non-smoker, i shouldnt need too much i think. Start with freestyle. As for how many lessons, that depends upon the instructor and your learning curve. You will know when the time is right to work on your own. As for being in shape, you might be surprised how difficult it will be to swim any distance over 50 yards without a break.
