After being out of the pool for 22 years, 3 months ago I decided to start up again. I would like to be able to continue the enjoyment I've found and maybe, just maybe, ease back into competing...for fun this time.
Since I don't swim with the masters team (timing doesn't work) right now I'm by myself, swimming light workouts 3 days a week. I've worked up from 30 minutes to 45, and 1 hour is next. I'm up to about 2700 yds.
I looked at the event calendars in the USMS site and found some challenges...Check-Off, 30-Minute, Virtual Geographic and the Brute Squad Postal Event. All of them look like a lot of fun and a great way to stay inspired without having to trek to a meet.
Since I don't swim with a coach I figure this is the best way to ease back into this.
Thoughts? Other ideas?
BTW, this site was one of the first places I've come to, and having stayed and lurked. I've enjoyed the discussions and feeling of community that I've found here. Thank you for that!
Anita:
Welcome back to swimming. I took 24 years off too and sometimes train alone. If you're inspired, you can do it. Use the workouts here for ideas. It sounds like you are ramping it up slowly, which is wise. Don't do too much too soon. I think you should also consider doing some rotator cuff exercises if you haven't already. Good luck. Have fun!
