What do YOU need to do to have a major swimming breakthrough?" I started this thread over in the work outs section which I think doesn't get as much traffic as the general discussion board so here's the link forums.usms.org/showthread.php but my point is, No matter what, the time between right now and your focus meet is going to pass, and the things you do to prepare for your meet is of the UTMOST importance. the choices you make the chances you take swim hard in practice rehearse racing I want to read your story about your breakthrough. Decide it starts today that this season will be your best season EVER What do you need to do to make this true? Ande
  • excellent jeff way to go please tell us times and splits ... ande
  • Ande: I posted somthing about Jeff on the Colorado site because there was a discussion about Olympic Trial cuts. I think a 1:01.62 100 *** SCM time has to be close to a 1:04.69 100 *** LCM time converted, if they convert olympic trial time cuts like they used to.
  • that is a smokin fast time here's where folks can find time standards www.usaswimming.org/.../DesktopDefault.aspx ande Ande: I posted somthing about Jeff on the Colorado site because there was a discussion about Olympic Trial cuts. • Care to meet with me in a "swimming beauty contest?" Ha, ha. Maybe. I've been told my stroke is kinda pretty, but then you've been at this more decades than I've been alive. (Also, Beth, don't worry. I don't take this *that* seriously. I'm pretty sure Terry doesn't either.)
  • Jeff, are you going to try to get the Trials cut officially? That would be so cool! I've seen you swim a few times, and you are very fun to watch!
  • I don't know if or when I'd go for the Trials cut. As I said, I will not swim at the meet, so I have until the day of the meet to try for it. That's about 18 months from now. We'll see.
  • I finally had a major breakthrough in a meet this past weekend. The only thing I did differently than previously was that I wore Karlyn P-N's hand-me-down speedo. It was worth 13 seconds off my 400IM time! Thanks Karlyn!
  • All, My 1:01.62 100 *** was split 28.6, 33.0. I did believe I went out too fast, but it felt good, and I paid for it the last 15 meters. Everyone said, though, that my third and fourth 25s seemed to be faster than my first two. I went a 28.30 50 *** the next day, so you can tell how much effort I put into the first 50 of my 100 ***. As for what I did during my six-week break: nothing. I'm not one to go hiking, running, biking, skiing or any kind of recreational activity when not training for swimming. But I didn't eat like a pig, so I didn't gain weight (though I never weighed myself). As for the Olympic Trials cuts, I'd have to swim the race in long course meters at a USA Swimming-sanctioned meet. Since 2000, I believe, all Olympic Trials cuts have to be done in LCM. No conversions allowed.

Jeff- you have to know that we forumites would form a highly effective and annoying cyber-cheering section for you, if you did decide to go for it.

We who practise the arcane art of butterfrog have the Force with us. Our strength is as the strength of ten because our hearts are pure. We bring beauty to a hag-ridden stroke while enduring the slings and arrows of outrageous envy-seized undulating misfits. I finally remembered to give butterfrog a try tonight. It may not be coincidental that our coach assigned a 3x400IM set tonight (it may not be coincidental that he wrote it on the board and disappeared before we got there either...). The lifeguard managed to keep a straight face but it was clear that she was not admiring the elegance of my attempts at this new style. I have a bad feeling that butterfrog is easier for "one-kick flyers", or perhaps just generally coordinated people, to pick up. I will await the promised video before making another attempt. :D
