What do YOU need to do to have a major swimming breakthrough?"
I started this thread over in the work outs section which I think doesn't get as much traffic as the general discussion board
so here's the link
forums.usms.org/showthread.php
but my point is,
No matter what, the time between right now and your focus meet is going to pass, and the things you do to prepare for your meet is of the UTMOST importance.
the choices you make
the chances you take
swim hard in practice
rehearse racing
I want to read your story about your breakthrough.
Decide it starts today
that this season will be your best season EVER
What do you need to do to make this true?
Ande
learning to kick fast will make you a faster kicker
then you need to train to apply your new kick to your stroke
while you're swimming
part of kicking faster is develping better feel for the water with your feet and shins
fast kicking helps with every stroke
SDK is the most important type of kicking to learn and improve
fast kicking is mainly for sprinting but when you improve your feel for the water with your kick you get more out of each kick when you 2 beat kick
I guess I have a question or at least a thought with pause. This is about your discussions of kicking faster. I think this is well and good but my thought is this: with an extremely fast kick the arm stroke will never be able to keep pace (turnover) with that kind of kick in a true swimming environment. So is the point that in practicing very fast kicking that the "basic" swimming kick gets stronger or strong enough to truly add momentum to the stroke? And is the thought of such a fast kick obviously for only short distances because it will be used primarily for sprinting? And I am speaking only of freestyle here.
thanks,
donna
