I have been swimming in a pool and am able to swim 1 mile - very slow, but still able to accomplish this non stop after 3 times in the pool and have not had any problems breathing.
I joined a Masters Class and all of a sudden I cannot catch or regulate my breathing. I find that after 75 or 100 yards into the warm up I have to stop and stablize my breathing.
I am assuming that this is because I am now swimming with people and sharing lanes and letting myself get caught up in the feeling like I have to keep up.
Have any of you experienced a similar phenomenon?

I can feel your pain, but it hurts so good! I always swim a bit easier when by myself but when the age groupers or other USMS swimmers are in the pool I tend to push myself into the pain zone. Out of breath and fatigued when I leave the pool, I know I have made progress!
