Simple. You have absolute power to change any technique rules, start/finish rules, age up rules, sky is the limit as long as the rules pertain to swimming. What would you change and why?

Ian is Toronto that little town near my hometown Hamilton.
I did not realize they had swimming pools there. I thought everybody in Toronto swam in Lake Ontario at Sunnyside Park.
"...we should also have an annual sprint quadrathon."
There is a "Pentathlon" meet in Toronto.
The only events are 50 fly, back, *** and free and a 100 IM.
Competitors have to enter ALL events and the winners by age group are based on the TOTAL time for all 5 events.
Haven't done it but it sounds like fun.
George,
The problem with the Toronto Pentahlon is that it has breaststroke in it. And backstroke too, for that matter.
Maybe Hamilton has something better. A new rule for pentathlon make-up is obviously required. (no butterfrog allowed for sure)
Ian.
Kathy- It is impossible to overestimate the number of philistines abroad in the world, cracking back on the beautiful stroke, their minds reeling from poisonous humours generated from doing mindless, soul destroying butterfly.
The 200 IM should be 50 fly 150 freestyle.
Peter will not be allowed to enter because he likes the breaststroke. Breaststroke is my favorite stroke when I watch someone else doing it and backstroke will be outlawed for sure as you all probably know what happens to me when I swim backstroke.
I proclaim that Masters Rules committees must read this entire thread and discuss it thoroughly without cracking a smile.
I cracked a smile. ;)
I would like to ban all sinus bacterium.
I also agree with Ande that all swimming injuries should be banned.
As to events, I think, since we have all these engine building one hour postal swims, we should also have an annual sprint quadrathon.
I would like to ban Richjb from doing butterfrog cuz he's kinda young for that.:thhbbb:
And then change the IM to alternate between Breaststroke and Freestyle (i.e. a 100 would be BR/FR/BR/FR).:groovy:
What is it with all the Breaststroke Bashers?:dunno:
I'm not bashing. I'm a swim-god too. I don't want those "others" polluting my breaststroke water...
Rich,
The more I think about this the better it sounds. It will accomplish 2 things;
1) get the stroke away from us purists who swim free, fly, and back, so our minds are not contaminated with thoughts of learning to swim this stroke better,
and
2) Separate the breaststrokers from the real swimmers so we don't have to listen to their (misguided) rants about how superior the stroke is.

Floyd..watch out when you dive in for your next 50...there might be shadow beneath you doing a pullout and dolphin kick towards you with a menacing and maniacal grin on his face...just a thought...
Having been the closest thing to a rules dictator for many years (chairman of the rules committee), I can offer the following perspective on breaststroke (the stroke being my best stroke has nothing to do with this appraisal). Those learned men and women who first put the rule book(s) together placed it in its proper position, first among the strokes (c.f section 102 of the USMS rule book and 101 of the USA Swimming rule book). Nothing more needs to be stated :) .

My soul is not yet destroyed; it's only my shoulder that's damaged. Besides, I'm really a backstroker now. At least I can do a 100 of that. Maybe you should just change your signature to "I loathe, abhor and detest .... butterfly. :thhbbb: :dedhorse:
