Simple. You have absolute power to change any technique rules, start/finish rules, age up rules, sky is the limit as long as the rules pertain to swimming. What would you change and why?
We have a SCY sprint pentathlon annually in Feb. and a SCM one in Sept.We also have an "Animal Meet" in Jan. with 200 Fly,400 IM and 1000 Fr.Come up and visit.
I think Breaststroke should be swam in it's own pool away from the other wannabee strokes...especially butterfly, and even more especially, Heather!
I would also impose a rule banning Fortress from "Necroing" any more posts from last year! :thhbbb:

And then change the IM to alternate between Breaststroke and Freestyle (i.e. a 100 would be BR/FR/BR/FR).:groovy:
What is it with all the Breaststroke Bashers?:dunno:
IM should be swum one of the following ways: either fly, back, free and stop 75, 150, and 300 IMs OR Fly, back, fly, free OR fly, back, choice, free ..
IF breaststroke absolutely MUST be swum it should be done so with a dolphin kick, preferably with a dolphin kick and fins (and a monofin for Fortress)
That is my kind of meet!! :applaud: I may have to move to Canada and leave USMS, as I'm unaware of any comparable event here.
We could do our own web-postal race.
I think Breaststroke should be swam in it's own pool
Rich,
The more I think about this the better it sounds. It will accomplish 2 things;
1) get the stroke away from us purists who swim free, fly, and back, so our minds are not contaminated with thoughts of learning to swim this stroke better,
and
2) Separate the breaststrokers from the real swimmers so we don't have to listen to their (misguided) rants about how superior the stroke is.

Having been the closest thing to a rules dictator for many years (chairman of the rules committee), I can offer the following perspective on breaststroke (the stroke being my best stroke has nothing to do with this appraisal). Those learned men and women who first put the rule book(s) together placed it in its proper position, first among the strokes (c.f section 102 of the USMS rule book and 101 of the USA Swimming rule book). Nothing more needs to be stated :) .

Kathy- It is impossible to overestimate the number of philistines abroad in the world, cracking back on the beautiful stroke, their minds reeling from poisonous humours generated from doing mindless, soul destroying butterfly.
Peter, You have a way with words:rofl: :notworthy:
There is a "Pentathlon" meet in Toronto.
The only events are 50 fly, back, *** and free and a 100 IM.
Competitors have to enter ALL events and the winners by age group are based on the TOTAL time for all 5 events.

These all sound like good ideas! I believe I am participaing in a wager for an upcoming meet where we're doing the "Animal", except the free is a 500. Should be an interesting evening!
