There seems to be as many opinions and misinformation floating around about personal weight that I thought we might share and perhaps open our minds a bit. Here are the questions that I feel will provide useful info:
Age
Sex
Height
Present weight range (many people vary 3-4 lbs over a day)
Ideal weight range for optimum health (your opinion)
Ideal weight range for optimum swimming performance
What steps are you taking, or will you be taking, to lose or
gain the weight difference between present & optimum.

Currently @ 134 (down from 138)
Ideal for health (I'll add in ideal for clothing) - 120-125
Ideal for swimming - 130 (weighed this @ 15 yrs old when at the jr national level); I feel the bit of extra muscle/ bulk helps tremendously in sprinting
To lose weight - swim 5 to 6 days a week @ max effort; cut out desserts and *almost* all alcohol; watch calories in vs. calories out

Started swimming last Aug to rehab a wrist injury I got bicycling. While all the bruises, etc healed I thought I would do it for a couple of weeks and here it is now 4 mo later and I'm still at it. Started with two laps that pretty much kicked my butt and now up to 1500 meter workouts 3-5 x wk. Used to swim for recreation when I was younger but really didn't have a efficient stroke technique. I took some lessons at the local pool and have since become a technically better swimmer. Have enjoyed reading the threads and hope to add running to my swimming routine. As for diet check out web info on gylcemic index and load. This helped( in addition to the regular swimming routine) me drop from 207# in Jan to my current 185-188 weight. Also dropped from a 36 waist to 34.
