Worlds at Stanfofd - It's not how fast you go but how good you look

I may be growing old, thin and feeble, but it seemed to me that there were a HELL of a lot of really big beefy middle aged dudes swimming at the meet at Stanford. I was sitting in the clerk of course for the 50 and 100 free thinking I weigh about 20-40 lbs less than most of these guys. I'm tellin' yah some of these guys chests were HUGE with big guns to match! I felt like a friggen squirrel in a Rotweiller cage. Saeger and I were glad it wasn't tag team wrestling. We'd of had our arms and legs ripped off. I'm thinking my standard formula of vitamins, protein powder and motrin may be out of date. After all, the cardinal rule of Masters Swimming.................. It's not how fast you go....... It's how good you look..... :-) John Smith

I have really enjoyed reading about the meet this past week and all the fun times, but this picture may need to be a screen saver, for motivation purposes solely. All my coworkers (female) want to take up swimming now. Congrats to everyone and their swims!

The list of prohibited substances is on the World Anti Doping Agency website: WADA My favorite is actifed. I love the stuff! A couple of interesting items from the list. Alcohol is not prohibited from swimming competition - if it were we probably wouldn't have a Masters Swimming :) Strychnine - is that because people try to kill their opponent It seems that Powerboating Alcohol limits are higher than Billiards - must be the bar fights. All Beta Blockers, except Blue Blockers ;) Does anyone know what normal medications would be considered illegal, ie is Flonase, Aleve, Sinus medicine, what otc supplements may have banned components?

And this'll be the only published photo in the world of me wearing anything but a brief. Savor it, Paul Smith!
  • For those of us who don't know, who are the people in the photo?

That's the 120 Team TYR medley relay champions. They are but youngsters and have yet to ripen on the Master swimming vine. Give them another 10 years and they may be able to match the manly dosages of Motrin that Paul and I tolerate. John Smith
