I'm 48yrs old- a Master's swimmer who has been sidelined due to shoulder problems (and 4 surgeries to correct them) for the last 8 years. The conclusion now by my doctors is that I need a total shoulder replacement. Yes, I have an orthopedist specializing in sports medicine who has consulted with other top surgeons about it due to my age. It is the only option due to traumatic arthritis from years of fly and a dislocating shoulder- I am down to bone on bone with no cushioning and tons of pain.
What I am wondering is if there are any Master's swimmers who have come back to swimming after a total shoulder replacement? If so I'd love to hear about your recovery and how long it took to get back in the water. And what are your restrictions? I'm suspecting the 200fly is going to be gone from my repetoire...
