Many of the forum regulars seem to be going to Stanford, alas, others of us will not be there. Some of you that are going will access the internet while there, however briefly- why not share? I have created this thread so you can report on the sights, sounds, swims, sunburns, socials etc. It matters not whether you be 'elite', 'newbie' or whatever, your impressions would be interesting to read. You could comment on great swims, technique, facilities, judging, the announcer, outrageous behavior of other forum participants, complaints, kudos- whatever. If you do, I at least would be grateful and if the thread garners much in the way of postings it could be a valuable archive for people to check for future Worlds. I lay down the guantlet...
  • Kokkole, apparently you have not seen the Speedo guy referred too. Good bods in Speedos are fine.......

  • If you are looking at the Real Time Results , be aware that the event listings are Heat Sheets, not Heat Results. Kind of confusing. I still have not found the final results of the 800 free for women, but the results of the 800 free for men are posted as the results of the last event completed. Surely, the women are done by now, but the event number for women is event 1. Mary

Mary- the elite yet secretive USMS sexual stereotyping committee decided that the men's results were of more interest than the women's. You may express your feelings on this decision to the USMS Bias officer, 'The Geek' via private message.
  • The women's 800 free results are now posted. I guess the women's heats just took longer to finish than the men. However, yesterday none of the women's heats were shown in real time. I wonder if they are only able to cover one pool at a time. The men swam in the Belardi pool yesterday. Today the women's events will be in Belardi, so perhaps the women's events will be covered in real time. Too bad they didn't have links for Last Completed Women's Heat, Last Completed Women's Event, Last Completed Men's Heat and Last Completed Men's Event. I'm looking forward to swimming the 200 back today. It's supposed to be partly clouding early. Should help my eyes. Even with mirrored goggles, bright sun is a problem for me in backstroke. Mary
  • I swam a 9:24 in the 800 free. My goal was a 9:30, and I thought that was pretty ambitious. I got a little worried because I was ahead of my heat right from the beginning, but I just kept it up. I wasn't too far from lapping a couple guys. People probably figured I sandbagged my seed time, but I didn't, I swear :) Anyway, excellent way to get the meet started! The facilities are impressive. Pretty incredible to put together a meet of this size but it looks like they're doing a great job, so thanks to Michael Moore and company. My wife and I took advantage of my off day today to drive down to Monterey with a stop in Santa Cruz on the way back. Looking forward to my events tomorrow!

  • Just wanted to post a little bit this afternoon since I am back at the hotel and out of the sun. Stayed too long in the heat yesterday which resulted in a killer headache and had to go to bed at 7:30 but I guess its what I needed since I took ten seconds off my best time in the 400 IM and I am very happy with that swim, also very happy that its over. The pools are beautiful, the water temp about 80 which could be cooler for me but its fine. The weather is perfect, but its August in California so it is to be expected. A lot of Oregon swimmers are staying at the Hotel California which has a common kitchen so we can store some foods here and tomorrow night we plan a pot luck in the courtyard. I very much love the team aspect I am experiencing here, not just with my own local teammates but all the Oregon swimmers are sitting together and also away from the pool. So far its the positive experience I was looking for! So far I have found warmups not that difficult, we have not gone to the alternate pools as it is possible to get an adequate warm up and cool down in the pools and times provided. I have found morning warm ups are not any more crowded than a national meet, I am getting done everything I want to do. I also went to part of the conference today and listened to they guy who did bouancy studies on the body suits, very interesting, also the former Stanford coach who talked about team motivation (I wore my bright gold Cal tee shirt). Very interesting and the building was air conditioned. We have been watching some great swimming!
  • Great people and great facilities. Saturday the meet was way behind the timeline, today it's ahead. I have to brag,in the 100 BR I went my best time in 8 years for 1st place.
  • Great Job Allen! You smoked them by almost 2 seconds. Any insight on the pool- fast medium-slow - walls good/no good - blocks high for fast starts? I've heard from friends, they are having a blast. I wish I were there. Alot of great competition and fast swims.
