I'm frustrated about this: head flat, butt up, kick from hips, head flat, butt up, kick from hips.
Today, my buddy and I were swimming, he like a fish and me like a slug. I said I was beginning to get frustrated at not being able to increase my endurance. He said I was still kicking with my knees and not my hip flexors, creating more drag. I have consciously tried to work this out, the flippers help cause they make me feel more flat and relaxed and sort of give me position in my head like I should feel without them. I swim flat with them on a couple of laps. I take em off, swim a length without them, flat and ok, and then...my butt drops and I start kicking from the knees. durnit!
I really just needed to vent a little, e-whine I guess, to some guys that I won't have to admit my frustration face to face.
But..on the bright side I am better than I was.
I'm really in no hurry, just sort of frustrated at being hung up at this point.
Thanks for listening,
Mark

scyfreestyler - Sorry to hijack this thread for a minute, but I was looking for you. I am going to SF to do Alcatraz on September 16, then driving to Monterey for a day or so, then down to So Cal. It's a long story, but I was wondering if your team would have a masters workout in Salinas/Monterey on Tuesday, September 19, preferably in the early morning? I would love to get a good workout that morning before I drive to LA. Thanks for any info you can offer.

Diana, I don't swim with the club to which I belong. The only potential Master's workout around here would be at the Pattullo swim center in Seaside, Ca. which is just a few miles from Monterey. You can reach the swim center at 831-899-6805. The only time I have been to their facility was for a meet. It is a new facility, indoors, 25 yard, etc.. Pretty nice place actually but their lap swim/practice hours don't really work well with my family life right now. Another option would be to swim at the Monterey Sports Center where I swim. It is also a 25 yard pool, indoors, and is very clean and well kept.
Here is a link to the facility's webpage...
