Today I arrived at 5:08 for the 5:15 workout, there were already people in warming up. "Did the time of practice change?" "No, they just want to get started" So I start the warm-up at 5:15, along with about 10 other swimmers. The warm-up was about 800 yards total...... About 200 in the coach stops everyone and says "Some of you are already done, so we're going to get started" "some of you" was the 4 people that started the warm up at 5:01 and were then waiting for the rest of us who started on time. I had the lane to myself, so I just continued. The coach was incredulous. Couldn't believe I wasn't going along. I explained to her that I wasn't loose yet and I couldn't commence with 8x125 pulls descend 1-4 on the 1:45. I would end up tearing something. Every time I stopped between intervals or sets she would remind me, indignantly, where everyone else was, " don't you want to jump in?" Somehow, someway, I managed to catch up by shortening my rest and intervals and I was done before they were. She was not happy! I did not care!

There's no way I would swim without a good warmup, either. And 200 yrds would not do it for me. That is not enough. I'm surprised that your coach would do such a thing.
  • I love reading these rants, you're right, lots of funny stuff! My biggest pet peeve is when you ask someone if you can share their lane (hey! I paid my dollar too!) and they say NO! WTF, who do they think they are? Even Michael Phelps shares a lane bozo! Oh yeah, and then listening to water exercisers in the locker room gripe and say that we (lap swimmers) should pay a higher fee to swim in the pool because we take up so much space? Excuse me? With 5-6 grown adults circling swimming in each lane, and the 6 of you bouncing around in only the short end taking up half the pool? Go figure.

Oh, don't even get me started on those :censor: noodlers again! Read my previous posts in this thread (and the noodlers thread) and you'll understand what I mean! :bitching:
  • Okay, Elaine, I have an even better one. One time I had to swim in the evening, 99% of the pool is taken up with age group teams, synchro kids, etc. There are 3 lanes for lap swimmers of every speed. One lane has an Olympian swimming in it (nice guy) with 2 other people, another has people who look like puffer fish & move at the speed of slugs. So I get in the other lane, I know I'm faster than the other people in the lane, but I figure, we'll all get along & it'll be over before we know it. This guy has a fit and pulls me over (in the middle of my flip) because I'm wrecking his workout, and he apparently thinks we are supposed to take turns going 50 yds, one at a time (with 5 swimmers in the lane) and I am messing him up, and he's a serious triathlete and on and on! :argue: OMG, I couldn't believe it. The lifeguards kinda stood there like, should we intervene?? (They being only 16 yo & the jerk being about 35 yo) -- finally the Olympian finishes his set & listens for a bit & then invites me into his lane. Go figure - even the lap swimmers are out to get you some days! :duel:
