  • Yep, he wanted us to keep our head down, but if you don't rotate your whole body to breathe, you loose the ball. Good drill, but sprinting was just frustrating. That's definately a case of too much. Doing no breather 25s that way for free is acceptable but, as you mentioned, you can't swim normal free with a tennis ball under your chin. Breaststroke is a completely different story. But free? Not sure what your coach was thinking there. Plus 'toys' should only be used for a limited time during practice for exactly the reasons you ranted about.
  • I had to wait 30 minutes before I could use the pool yesterday because of kids practice. Not ranting about that, but throughout the practice a noodle class was going on in two of the lanes, and were still in there during the hour I was in the pool when the kids were gone. In fact, every time I'm at that pool there's always fat ladies in two of the lanes doing the noodles. How do they get the priority? It's a SWIMMING POOL for people to SWIM in. If they were actually getting exercise, that would be another thing. But it's a social gathering for bouyant people that have no desire for fitness. They're loud and obnoxious too, and stare at me when I get out of the pool making me feel used. Oh, about getting out of the pool, they're in the pool for 2 hours without getting out once. They've got to be peeing in it. Feel better, thanks.

I agree with all your complaints. I also hate the swimmer who just floats in the lap pool at my YMCA,instead of using the other pool.I also hate the person who thinks it is just fine to walk thru your lane when you are about to turn. I either run into them or have to stop so they can cont thru my lane!. Oh well Merry Holidays to all my fellow swimmers!!!!!:cheerleader:

...when people who don't swim give me grief for my 'minimalist' swimwear. I usually tell them to kiss my a$$ , then keep swimming
  • A week ago, while in Costa Maya, we went clear bottom kayaking and while we were doing that, we all got out and swam in the Carribean. My runner husband wanted to swim with me. We did not have goggles, so we swam with our eyes closed. He started ahead of me and after about 20 strokes (blind) I stopped to see where he was. While I was turning and looking for him, his right hand (fully equiped with a class ring) smacked me across the eye and bridge of my nose. My eyebrow is still swollen a week later - moral - don't swim with runners - they are viscous! :fish2:

...when people who don't swim give me grief for my 'minimalist' swimwear. How incredibly rude! (Come to think of it, you might just say that to them: "How incredibly rude!")
  • When I got to the pool the lifeguard said "I hope you can find a lane". . . . So I warmed up swimming in the shallow end in lanes 1-3 until the aqua joggers left. Excellent solution in a difficult situation! :applaud:
  • When I got to the pool the lifeguard said "I hope you can find a lane".In the locker room a friend who was just leaving said"it's wild in there, during my workout a woman stopped me and asked if I needed to use the deep end."As I came out I found -Lanes 1-3 no lines and a group of teens in the deep end practicing lifesaving.Lane 4,3 aqua joggers in the deep end.Lane 5 ,2 age groupers with their coach.Lane 6-2 swimmers splitting the lane who were averaging about 75 sec 50s.Lane 7-an 85 year old swimmer sharing the lane with another age grouper with her swim coach. And lane 8- a group of children taking swim lessons. So I warmed up swimming in the shallow end in lanes 1-3 until the aqua joggers left.
