I find the 200 BR easier than the 100 FR, but that's mostly due to boredom than anything else. By the way, I do think fly is a great stroke, and I wish I could do it well. I'm just joking around.
This is a very valid point. I think when the world gets baked to the point we are all under water that the *** strokers will be the last to drown because it is a survival stroke, not a competitive one.
It seems to me that the implication of this is that the blue-haired noodler set will, by Darwinism, stand the best chance of inheriting the earth - as long as they keep their hair dry, that is. Depressing.

Pheh - somebody absconded with my shoes in the pool locker room today. Amazing. It's the sox inside I miss the most! Management gave me a pair of bath slippers to wear outside in the frigid if not quite subzero northern temps.
:bitching:
Ooh, a new graemlin: :waiting:
Adding to the subset of lane etiquette rants,
This morning we had our usual 5 in the lane doing an organized workout. At the end, during some 25s stroke/sprint, a younger (ie relatively recent college type, based on appearances and hairline) slides into the lane and proceeds to swim continuously. Good stroke, not going real fast but you could tell he probably could outpace most of us, but without a word. Needless to say, conflicts arise and he goes "dumb" on us saying he didn't know what was going on, etc. It was explained to him that we welcome all comers, but please find a way to coexist with the 5 already dutifully organized people already swimming. More harsh words.
What's the deal? Why don't people ask to "work in" or "are you guys in the middle of the workout, or finishing up?" or even, heaven forbid, "could I join you? I'm interested in meeting new swimmers". No such luck. Each of us has been swimming competitively longer than he's been alive, I think, and it's not that we are pushing seniority or exclusivity, and we are usually the fastest in the pool by a long shot, but I would have expected basic civility from a fellow competitive swimmer, if not outright simple friendliness.
Now for a nap.

This really is the pits.
I swim only one event per year, the usual February Winterfest Meet in the 50 free LCM event.
Guess what? This year it's being replaced (in March) by the Ontario Provincial (so far not too bad) SCM (that's where I draw the line) Championship.
Well, guess I'll have have 2010 to look forward to.
That's a dirty trick to play on a 65-69 year-old who may not have too many upcoming LCM events left in his life....................
Backstroke should also be discontinued.
87 degrees in Melaque Mexico. The crocdiles are swimming by in the lagoon. I had my first Margarita last night since we arrived.
WHAT? Backstroke discontinued? Is that because you are terrible at it? It is a wonderful stroke; needs great timing and grace. Uh, what kinda tequila was involved? That's what caused you to write what you did about backstroke! I mean, undulation on your back? Think about it. Great position, wonderful movements, don't you think? And, it can be fast!

Got out of a warm bed at 4:30 am yesterday got into my suit and drove to practice - we waited until 5:15, made some phone calls, but the guy that opens the pool did not show! :rant3:
Thanks to RC problems, I've cut way back on swimming since July and last week swam a normal workout for the first time in six months. (I was mainly kicking and kicking and kicking.)
The swim was so much fun - I had forgotten how much I enjoy swimming. I was going to post an 'attaboy' to my shoulders for holding up pain free.
But yesterday I got a mole taken off my back - six stitches. No swimming for two weeks.
Arrrgh!
There's this one guy who on holiday was using the pool. Nothing wrong with that, just trying to cool off probabely. However he had this habit of doing the most annoying breaststroke. One foot would come out above the surface of the water, and smash back down into it hard. This went on and on and on, for every stroke. Sooo anooying when ur trying to relax.
Other than that - "slow people causing congestion in the fast lane", as quoted by the lifeguard.
I last swam on 12-9.First I got a GI virus and missed 3 days. Then the snow and ice started,My main pool has been closed since 12-13 with no signs of opening soon.It will be at least 12-26 before I can get to a pool that might be open then.HELP,my gills are drying out.
