  • Enter another swimmer. He walks along the side of the pool, hesitates and eventually picks the lane just next to mine. I suppose I should be grateful that he didn't ask to share my lane. He then proceeds to race me (I'm a very slow swimmer, so he's quite successful at that) for his entire workout (about 20 mins). Finally he gets out, his ego presumably boosted by his swimming prowess. I continue my surreal swim in the empty pool. Analogous to choosing a site in a public campground. Find a nice quiet one with 10 empty sites on either side and the very next camper will set up next door and turn on the boom box. It's human nature. :) So now I set up a decoy tent and wait till dusk to pick my site for the night.
