Not a real rant - I wasn't annoyed, just perplexed. I was swimming late one evening in the indoor 50m pool set up for a short course meet on the following day - a total of 20 lanes and ALL MINE!!! No one else is in the pool or even near the pool area - the guards are away somewhere. This has never happened to me before so I'm enjoying the total tranquility of my swim. Enter another swimmer. He walks along the side of the pool, hesitates and eventually picks the lane just next to mine. I suppose I should be grateful that he didn't ask to share my lane. He then proceeds to race me (I'm a very slow swimmer, so he's quite successful at that) for his entire workout (about 20 mins). Finally he gets out, his ego presumably boosted by his swimming prowess. I continue my surreal swim in the empty pool.
