notsofast: I completely sympathize with you! I went to the hospital twice this year once for chest pains and once for lung problems (I'm 22 years old! and a college swimmer haha!) and both times they turned out to be something fairly minor. I went to the hospital in November 2007 and January 2008 and I am still getting bills from the first stint from almost 7 months ago! And major bills too! My rant however is not about that...it's about the fact that after ending my college swimming career in February, I was put on a 3-4month rest period because I was at too low of a BMI % and the doctors thought that the chest pain I was getting was a result of the fat lining along my heart beginning to deteriorate in addition to the need to clean my lungs of chlorine exposure so that I could be weaned off all the inhalers I was using in order to survive swimming in my poorly ventilated college pool. So for 3.5 months I did nothing but walk, and even that was limited because I got so bogged down with final projects and case studies, moving out and graduating that I had no time. Now, I am trying to get back into the groove and back into a routine and having a very hard time. It just stinks being so out of shape and I lost so much muscle mass that its very discouraging. I was assuming that I would gain weight when I was on this rest period but I actually ended up losing about 17lbs, but I know that it was all in muscle weight...therefore, I know how long of a journey it will be back to where or near where I was....but you gotta start somewhere!
