Where should my eyes be looking when swimming freestyle? If straight ahead, parallel to the surface of the water, is 0 degrees and straight down, perpendicular to the surface of the water is 90 degrees. What angle should I be looking at?

Generally, your head should be straight down. If you lift your head forward, your hips will sink, and you will slow down.
This artcle is over 10 years old...but the comments about head position hold true. Keeeping your head in "neutral" prevents the hips from dropping deeper and bogging you down. The water should skim over the top of the head. When you breathe, try visualizing the "one eyed jack" as in a deck of cards. One eye in the water ....one eye out.
