The World Championships will be a long meet spread over many days. I have a couple of free days between my races, as I am sure many others do too. Obviously we need to get in the water to practice/warm-up on these days. While at the USMS Nationals in Coral Springs I heard we will not be able to use the facilities at Avery Aquatic Center if we are not racing on that particular day. If that is true, where will we be able to swim (preferably in a LC pool) on our non-race days?

Those are some of the reasons I have decided not to attend Worlds. Although a difficult decision, I feel I would not be able to swim my best out there. For me, length of time meet is to long for me to hold a good taper. Too many people and chaos of fighting for a good warmup and only being able to swim 5 events rather than the normal 6.
Instead, I have opted to swim in a big USS meet 2nd week in July that I will use as my shave and taper meet. 6 events plus finals in evening gives me many swims over a 3 day period. I am not a big fan of long course, mainly because I do not train in a long course pool. However, times I have swam this summer unshaved and not tapered I think would have placed me ok. Times I have done thus far in 50 meter long course this season, 40-44 yr age
50 free - 25.8
100 free 57.1
200 free 2:05.3
400 free 4:24.50
1500 free 17:50
100 fly 1:00.12
200 fly 2:17.2
I guess another question I have is how can you and how do you go about submitting times from a USS meet to USMS to see if your in the top 10?
Best of luck to everyone at Worlds,
greg
After a great deal of cajoling I got my wife back into swimming and she's is going to Worlds. There are 2 days where she is swimming and I'm not. Do I have to register as a coach to be with her on the pool deck?(And I'm assuming it's to late to so register.)
While the on deck accessibility is limited, there will be 25m bleacher seating on the grassy side of each competition pool. The bleachers will be close to the pool but there will be a barrier between them and the pool deck which can be accessed through a gate. There is permanent bleacher seating, that will be shaded, by the Avery pool - warmups and water polo.
You need to also understand that once an event is called, the swimmers will report to the marshalling area and from that point on no one will have access to them except the Clerk of the Course and the other competitors in the event. Not even those allowed to be on the deck will be able to be in that area. That is standard procedure at World Championships.
In addition to the bleacher seating, there is a lot of grassy area for blankets and tents outside the pool, a food court with lots of picnic tables and trees for shade, and I believe the basketball arena, air conditioned and just across from the pools, where you will register and get your crendentials, will be available during the meet.
Rich, I will find out about designated areas for handicapped spectators.
Hope this is a help.

Paul brings up a very good point. I hope they wouldn't keep us away from the pool on days we want to cheer for spouses/friends/teammates/idols.
That said, I only have one day off, so it won't be much of an issue to me.
Along these same lines, I have a couple of questions for Micheal or Nancy.
Assuming pool deck access is restricted to only those competing on that particular day, what are the arrangements for spectators? Is there good viewing for both pools? Is there shade Are their accomodations for those with handicaps?
And, if you're competing or not, what are the arrangements for hanging out / relaxing between events, etc. both on and around the deck and immediately outside the facility?
Thanks for any answers,
Rich

I can't imagine people from I don´t know how many countries hanging out on deck to cheer their teamates.
Nancy Thank you for mentioning registering and getting your credentials. I have looked thru all the info in the books online and can not find where it states anything about when and where it is open to get this done. I will not be flying in until Monday nite at 6:30pm for swims on Tues. How do I get my credentials to swim before the Tues. AM. Thanz
What time will the credentials desk open up in the mornings? I swim the first event on Saturday morning and get in too late Friday night to take care of it then.
Joy,
If you're getting in at 6:30pm, you wouldn't get to the pool until 7:30pm and we don't expect the days to last nearly that long, except maybe the 800m day which will be the most lengthy (but hopefully not that lengthy!).
I would expect the credentialing to be open throughout the meet but not after it is over for the day. I'll check on that. My suggestion would be to arrive pretty early on Tuesday morning to get it done before your warmup and swim.
