Thanks! I am particularily enjoying Thorpe. I watched him in the Olympics and admired his style. I still know nothing about the specifics really, just enjoy watching a good swim. Now that I'm learning, I know what to look for as I review his technique.
I had my first lesson last MOnday, and have been in the water, either lesson or practice everyday since. I feel like sort of a sponge really. I have found myself looking at bookstores for swim magazines. I've read quite a bit online. I am incredibly new and raw with it, but I am enjoying learning. I can barely freestyle swim end to end in a regular home pool. But, I'm paying attention to my technique and learning it right. I can "feel" the swim more now, but my breathing is still not right. I practice on the wall some. I want to go to some local swim meets and see what happens. Never been to one.
Sorry, newbie woke up with swimming on his mind and drinking coffee.

Hi Midaged,
Welcome to the world of swimming mate - its great to read about how keen you are to learn and have fun. Here's a couple of links for you to answer your question:
1. www.kurtz.se/.../index.html - a good collection of short clips from the Athens Olympics.
2. www.swimsmooth.com/downloads.htm - a clip from our website of Bill Kirby (Ian Thorpe's teammate and Sydney Olympic Gold Medallist in the 4x200 freestyle). He's got a really nice smooth stroke which is great for visualiation.
3. www.swimsmooth.com/freearticles.htm - a collection of swim articles which you should find useful for some further reading. I can particularly recommend the first section on improving your breathing in the water during the freestyle stroke.
Anyway, best wishes and I hope you really get into your swimming!
Cheers
Paul
Western Australia also has a lot of clips on their site. If you get their newsletter, you need to use their search to find them. Once I got them by googling Western australia film clips.
