Does anyone have suggestions or kowledge on recovering from smoking? I quit smoking a few weeks ago after 31/2 year of the junk! Is it possible to heal my lungs? If not, how far back to normal can I get? If my lungs can somewhat heal, how long will this take? Thx for any input

I'm sure there are many factors involved with the re-generation of lungs, but my Grandad smoked from the time he was 25 until he turned 80. His doctor told him to quit and he did. When he died nine years later, the doctors said his lungs were that of a non-smoker and his death was not smoking related. On the other hand, I have known people who died of lung cancer that never had a cigarette their entire lives. I don't smoke and if I get lung cancer, than I will live with my fate. What I don't understand is the person with cancer that continues to smoke until they die.
