MIT Graduates Must Be “Technically Buoyant” (Pun Intended)

I ran across a couple of interesting links about Massachusetts Institute Of Technology (MIT) and they have a graduation requirement that everyone must be able to swim at least 100 yards without stopping. It’s a final exam I would love to study for.

MIT has a real paradise of a pool too!

At first glance I thought this is a cinch, no problem. Thinking back 1.5 years ago when I started swimming I can understand how swimming a 100 Free non-stop would be a feat. Having had some elementary swim lessons as a kid I would have made it through but I would have been a wreck at the end. I see adults in our gym's adult swimmer class all the time who have to be taught to keep their face in the water. Like anything else, when you do it all the time you tend to forget just how difficult it can be for those who are just starting. Good for MIT. That is a good program and it will probably save one of those students lives one day.
