For those of you that train short course yards/meters and race long course, what are some of the things you do to help make the transition?
I am currently traing short course meters and want to race long course this summer. Two things I am trying are more vertical kicking, to get the legs use to less walls. The other is swimming with tubing tied to a starting block and swimming in place for a bit.
Any other suggestions?
Thanks!
John
Nope but swimming short course yards, and eventually short course meters when it warms up, and am also hoping to swim long course. All the long course pools have been taken out or are closed for renovation around me.
First, swimming LCM is partially about attitude. Turns are less important so it helps to revel in the fact that swimming is more important than turning. I practice for swimming LCM by swimming over distance, like 125 yd for 100 and not taking a push off every other length. Go into your turn hard, turn hard and then just don't push off and instead start swimming. This not only more closely simulates long course it helps one to learn to accelerate in the middle of a length.
