How Competitive are You?

I have always been competitive, but I think the gene was dormant until I entered a couple of swim meets. Now I want to win at everything! Example: We had an Easter competition at my office - guess the number of jelly beans in a jar and win some prizes. Well, I didn't win and I am bummed! It's not like I need or wanted the prizes, I wanted to win. Is there such thing as Competitors Anonymous? Anyone else with the competitive gene? How far would you go to win?

  • It all depends... but I've had moments. Walking up the stairs to my office at a former job (ninth floor of the building--this was part of my workout regime), I saw a guy just behind me, much younger, and the competitive juices flowed. "Not gong to let this kid pass me!" I picked up my pace and the kid was a couple flights behind when he stopped, opened the door to a lower floor, and left the "race" that no doubt he was unaware was going on. In a recent 5k run, I derived a LOT of satisfaction in passing one of my students near the end of the race. I never really think of myself as competitive, though.
