I have always been competitive, but I think the gene was dormant until I entered a couple of swim meets. Now I want to win at everything!
Example: We had an Easter competition at my office - guess the number of jelly beans in a jar and win some prizes. Well, I didn't win and I am bummed! It's not like I need or wanted the prizes, I wanted to win.
Is there such thing as Competitors Anonymous?
Anyone else with the competitive gene?
How far would you go to win?
It all depends... but I've had moments.
Walking up the stairs to my office at a former job (ninth floor of the building--this was part of my workout regime), I saw a guy just behind me, much younger, and the competitive juices flowed. "Not gong to let this kid pass me!" I picked up my pace and the kid was a couple flights behind when he stopped, opened the door to a lower floor, and left the "race" that no doubt he was unaware was going on.
In a recent 5k run, I derived a LOT of satisfaction in passing one of my students near the end of the race.
I never really think of myself as competitive, though.
