  • Lochte is on fire, but I'm still most impressed by Vanderkaay breaking the 500 record. Out in 2:02 at the 250!! I might be repeating myself, but averaging faster than 50 seconds per hundred for 500 yards is simply amazing. It looks like he had just enough left in the tank to pull it off. Imagine how disappointing it would have been if he missed the mark by 0.1 seconds.

Can I go back and change my Stanford pick? Arizona is swimming lights out! Amazing since many of those guys were just in Australia last week for Commonwealth Games. Burnett's 200 Free the swim of the meet, so far, (maybe tied with Vanderkaay) IMHO.

I thought I was being realistic picking Stanford, but you're right that relay cost them dearly. Somewhat ironic about the breaststroke dolphin kick huh. Tomorrow definitely shapes up as one of the best last days we have seen, probably since the last time Texas won over Stanford. What's amazing about Arizona is how they are scoring so well with so few swimmers.

I really thought Auburn was going to win handily after day one, but Arizona swam lights outs tonight. It should be very exciting tomorrow! Jim: Vanderkaay's best time in the 1650 is a 14:36 which he swam last year at NCAAs. That was good for second behind Larsen Jensen who swam a 14:32.

Let's just say this: Phelps had crocker's picture on his wall after losing to him at the worlds. Something tells me Lochte's picture is going on Phelps' wall now. Both he and Peirsol better not get lazy betweennow and Beijing. But on a more important note: Cullen Jones wins the 50, but can't break 44 in the 100. Wow. But who am I to talk? I couldn't go under 1:59 in the 200 *** to save my life.

I know Sam mentioned Ryan Lochte and his amazing swims.....but how about Simon Burnett's 200 free.....1:31.20....thats unreal!....but I guess 1:37.6 in the 200 back might be even more unreal?....I can't fathom either so it doesn't really matter....Lochte's 200 I.M. is also beyond reason!
  • If Cullen over rested, he wouldn't have been able to go 19.1 in the 50. I'm in the middle of taper right now, and over resting really freaks me out. But I know I can do a good 50 and good 100 in the same meet. The 200 is a different story. You can look at any of my swims from NCAAs as proof.
  • But on a more important note: Cullen Jones wins the 50, but can't break 44 in the 100. Wow. Wow is right. I missed that completely. That looks to me like a serious hole in his training program - not enough lactate or a poor aerobic base. Or perhaps he had both of those things and just over rested after his spectacular conference 50 free.
