Has anyone here tried Fistgloves? If so, were they beneficial to you?

I have never used them but I have swam with closed fists before. It makes you very aware of your arm position. A dropped elbow will leave you swimming in place. If our local swim shop had them I would probably buy them but I just never get around to ordering them.

Well, I just ordered a pair of x-large Fistgloves. I figured for only $16, including shipping, what I have got to lose? (Okay Smart Pants, I realize I've got $16 to lose. But that's peanuts, really). After I have used my gloves for a couple of weeks, I'll post my experiences with them. Cheers.

I've used fistgloves before and I've enjoyed using them. I've been meaning to get them out again lately. So what do I think they are used for after using them? Well, its hard to explain but I will first say that you do need to be very careful about putting them on. As craiglll described if you're not careful you can shred them. It easily takes me 1-2 minutes to put each one on but they are easier to take off. The fistgloves do an excellent job making your entire hand feel "numb" while you swim. Swim with them on for a few hundred yards. Then swim without them and your hands feels like they can feel every single water molecule. After you swim with the fistgloves off, its very easy to see within your stroke where your getting the most pull and at the same time you can make sure as scyfreestyler stated, that you don't drop your elbow. They are a great tool to get that "feel" of the water as we sometimes say. The one thing I immediately noticed after using them is how much my forearm is involved in helping my pull. We always talk about the hand position (the whole S curve thing when I was a young lad) but my feeling is that swimmers shouldn't forget about how much the forearm can help. So even drills keeping a high elbow with just your fists (no gloves) are good drills. Just my thoughts/two cents about fistgloves. -Mike
