One topic of great interest to us all is
"What do you need to do to have a major swimming breakthrough?"
"What do you need to do to significantly improve your swimming times in the days and weeks left in THIS season?"
What I'm looking for are specific, nitty gritty type suggestions.
I think it's really easy to fall into a rut,
to just show up and go through the motions
rather than seizing the moment while we train.
Does anyone have any thoughts on
what we need to do to significantly improve?
I thought this would be an interesting topic to discuss

Good topic. Two things I need to do:
1 - swim 50, 100 and 200 sets on 1:00-1:05 per 100, regardless of the interval
2 - get out of the pool two days a week and do dry-land to improve flexibility, core strength and belly size
As a swimmer who trains on his own, I need to push beyond the pain (anaerobic pain, not joint damage pain) to get to the next level. It is far too easy to take a few extra seconds of rest here and there when you are by yourself. Who's gonna know?
Having teammates that keep you challenging yourself even when you feel like getting out and going home. :) Thanks you guys.
But at the same time I'm thinking cross training helps too!
Race in practice more ... as in teammates ...

Nice to meet you Wookie Man!....Its always nice to meet a fellow Tennesseean. The answer is ...not many to none.....thats why I am dually registered as a USA swimmer. I workout with the local USA team here in town and go to thier meets to compete for the most part....most of thier meets are nearby (Memphis, Nashville, or nearby in Alabama or Georgia).....Maybe you should think about becoming dually affiliated as well sp that you can compete in more meets.....I started a thread about this dual affiliation thing a while back in fact.....I bet its now buried way back on page 1000 or so by now though...LOL!
Good Luck with your swimming Wookie!

I think that a swimmer must realize that somethings just aren't going to happen - no matter what training is involved. What I really love about swimming is that it is so to the point. There is nothing hidden, nothing denied. It is truthful and very honest. You either are or you aren't!
