Hello masters swimmers,
I am a USMS member and coach of the Worldgate TriMasters in Herndon, VA. Just wanted to let everyone know about a swimathon I am doing to benefit Cancer Research. Also see if anyone had any ideas for sponsors/contributions? A full descrition about the swimathon and the Brain Cancer Research Fund can be found at: http://swimathon.i8.com/
And here is more of a summary:
I am holding a swimathon on Sunday February 26th from 8am-4pm at Worldgate Sport and Health Club in Herndon, VA, in which I will attempt to swim for 8 hrs in order to raise money for Cancer Research.
I came up with the idea because my uncle Walt recently died of brain cancer. He had always been very supportive of my swimming ambitions and thought it only just to honor him by doing the swimathon.
All contributions will benefit the Brain Tumor Research Foundation at the University of Michigan. The University’s Neuro-oncology program focuses on treatment, research, and education related to brain tumors and neurological complications of cancer. The program offers comprehensive care including both aggressive treatments including experimental treatments as well as appropriate emphasis on compassionate care and quality of life. In addition, the University’s program has many ongoing research activities. Current areas of emphasis include advances in imaging of brain tumors, radiation-sensitizing drugs (drugs that make radiation more effective), and clinical trials for brain tumors.
I am asking for any contributions for this event. Contributions may consist of: company sponsors, or individual donations or pledges. All contributions will go directly to the Brain Tumor Research Foundation at the University of Michigan. Please contact me with any contribution you would be willing to give.
Checks should be made to:
