My first event, 50 Free, I dove in with a poor streamline. My hands were not locked and my left hand did something strange and caught a significant amount of water, putting on the brakes for my swim. The worst part is that my shoulder is feeling beaten up because of it (I felt a muscle strain when it happened). It did not affect my swimming in any events but I can sure feel it today. The good news is that I came from behind and wound up winning my heat in spite of my horrible start. In my 100 Free I had a good streamline and swam a strong race. I was quite pleased with my times as well considering my lackluster training recently.
Anyhow, I'll give my shoulder a few days off and hope it gets better. The fact that I was able to swim without pain yesterday makes me feel confident that I did not do any significant damage such as a tear.
Needless to say, I will be working on my streamlines much more in practice.

If those times aren't even your best, I certainly wouldn't be complaining. After swimming with masters teams for 8+ years (no formal swimming prior) you still got me beat, for the 100 at least, close for the 50.
That is my fastest 50 SCY time since it's the first time I have contested the event. It is also my first 100 SCY but I did swim in a SCM meet a few months back and recorded a time of 1:10 for a 100 SCM. I think that converts to be a bit quicker than my 100 SCY time.
I came into this sport thinking that my youth (31 years old) would be of great benefit to me. Now that I have been swimming for 1.5 years I can see that age has very little to do with a persons ability to swim fast. In fact, most of the people who swam 24 second 50's this weekend were in their 40's. Perhaps by the time I am in my 40's I will be swimming those times as well. Either way, it's fun and it keeps me healthy. :D
