My first event, 50 Free, I dove in with a poor streamline. My hands were not locked and my left hand did something strange and caught a significant amount of water, putting on the brakes for my swim. The worst part is that my shoulder is feeling beaten up because of it (I felt a muscle strain when it happened). It did not affect my swimming in any events but I can sure feel it today. The good news is that I came from behind and wound up winning my heat in spite of my horrible start. In my 100 Free I had a good streamline and swam a strong race. I was quite pleased with my times as well considering my lackluster training recently.
Anyhow, I'll give my shoulder a few days off and hope it gets better. The fact that I was able to swim without pain yesterday makes me feel confident that I did not do any significant damage such as a tear.
Needless to say, I will be working on my streamlines much more in practice.
If those times aren't even your best, I certainly wouldn't be complaining. After swimming with masters teams for 8+ years (no formal swimming prior) you still got me beat, for the 100 at least, close for the 50.
