About 4 years ago, I met some swimmers in this forum that reguarly did high intensity, but short duration (like 1000 to 2000 yard) workouts. Over time, I lost touch with those swimmers. These swimmers, had some clever name for these types of workouts. Maybe some of you remember that clever name.
After 8 years of hard training, I want to really enjoy my swimming workouts and would like to try these type of workouts. All I really remember is that one swimmer did 10x100 free at high speeds, about 3x per week. Obviously, I can guess at other workouts.
I heard reports that one doesn't really need to do high volume workouts. I'm aware that all the big name swimming schools do swim high volume workouts.
I am thinking about starting a blog on blogger.com and recording these types of workouts--as well as the drylands that I do. I have recorded some test sets--so I'll be able to compare my progress (or will I regress). I anticipate about 2000 yards 3x per week (which includes warm up and cool down). I also anticipate some jogging and resistance training.
Let me hear your thoughts on the subject.

I average 2000/workout 4X/wk.and lift weights 2 of those days. Everything is race pace or warm up/cool down. One day is sprints, like 25s on the min,one day is like 50s on the 2 min at 100 pace, one day is like 100s on the 3:30 at 200 pace, the fourth day is whatever I feel needs the most work. This seems to work for me. One key is never take much time off, because if you do you have to get back in shape.
These type workouts are great for sprinters. Quality, not quantity is key. Try to do a race pace set of 12.5's, 25's, 50's or 100's with lots of rest at least once a workout. If you truly work hard, you will get a lot out of them. Good luck and please keep us posted!
