Maybe some of the swimmers left on, say, the 57 rather than the top. That's grounds for execution, right? :)
Seriously, don't you think this could be a little overblown? Yeah, I'm sure the pictures look bad, but none of us really know anything about the context.
If consenting adults agree to staging simulated executions poolside, that is fine.
The way I read it was that the swimmers were young and I think they mean sub 18 years of age.
I bet it all started with a "I'd rather be shot than train again." Something pretty much every swimmer has said ... a club team in my area got t-shirts if they made every double practice over winter break that said, "Welcome to hell you've sold your soul to Sam." Sam*, being the coach.
To me this is a extreme version of that ... I bet it all started as harmless fun and was a "wouldn't it be funny if we ... " and spiraled out of control ...
*Names in this story maybe have been changed to protect the innocent (or not so innocent)

I believe everything I read on the internet! Don't you?!? :p
That wan't a pistol you see. It was really a starting gun. And....er...they were trying to get them used to the sound... for faster reaction times off the blocks. Aussie's always take things to the extreme you know. Blame it on the Fosters.
When I lived in DC, I had an Australian roommate. He was nuts. I've known several (male and female), while they are friendly people, they can get really weird when they get on the edge. One time my roommate hung himself unpside down with bedsheets from the third floor banister to do hanging situps. The sheets ripped, & he went plunging to the first floor entryway. Another trip to the George Washington ER.
Another time we were swimming from the boat house to Roosevelt Island, he decided to see how far he could swim under water in the Potomac. He couldn't see anything because the water was so dirty. He got carried away & was floating down the channel. He ended up having to swim to the ( I think it is the 14th st.) bridge & drag himself out.
By the way matt, still want to so the relay?
