Lunch Time Swim

Any of you ever swim on lunch? I just did for the first time today. I was able to swim about 400 yards freestyle. What do some of you do if you swim on lunch from work? I work about a 10 minute drive from the gym, so I can swim for about 20 minutes.
  • I swim at least 2 times a week on my lunch. I do have the leisure of setting my own time, so come in early or leave late on those days so I can take a long lunch. I usually swim at least 45 minutes, getting in 2000-2500 yards depending on what I am doing. It takes me 10 minutes each way, and about 15 minutes to shower and get back to work, so I am pushing a 90 minute lunch on those days, and go back to work with wet hair! I then usually eat my lunch at my desk(which is not allowed, BTW, oh well).

I've been swimming at lunch for a couple of months, it's really worked out well although I can only spend about 30 minutes. I can get in 1000 to 1200 yds, but I'm the only one in a 25 yd pool (as opposed to a 20 yd 4 lane pool I can share with 10 other people for 20 minutes at the Y in the morning). I can get a shower and get back to work without a problem.

I sometimes swim on my lunch break. I telecommute part of the week, so on those days no one will ever know if I'm working with wet hair or smell like chlorine the rest of the day. :D I love it because I have much more energy than at end of the day... plus, the pool is less busy and so I'm less self-conscious about practicing my weak strokes.

I workout during the 2 hour lunches I have been taking for the past 18 years (same company). I come in early and stay late everyday to make up the time. My schedule has never been an issue with my colleagues or bosses. I have my electronic calendar blocked off for that time span as “out of the office” so scheduled meetings during that time are rare. The high school pool is 5 miles across town, so accounting for travel time, dressing, and showering, I average 3+ grand a day. I realize I am very fortunate to be able to do this.
