...also...that fly time is incredibly fast for this early in the season. Tapered?...or not tapered??
Looks like the Arizona swimmers shaved--Burnett's times are pretty quick, very swift backstroke leg on the 400 MR (46.44). Mellouli and Vanderkaay put on an entertaining 500--good to see Klueh under 4:20. Also Kalyn Keller had a great swim in the 500, glad she's back and swimming fast.
I always enjoyed this meet as a fan, great to watch with 3 consolation finals and then a championship final.
Mens 500 was a real race. Two 4:12's
First hundred out in 48/49 with the remaining four all on 50 second pace per 100. (That's superhuman.)
Dolan's record may be flirted with this year. He took it out in 47 though.... and went 49+ pace on the last four 100's. Sick.
Ian had a fast 100 free at the Texas Invite....BUT I also noticed that his 50 meter fly world record was beaten at the US Open a couple of weeks ago by some South African guy who beat Crocker head to head while breaking the record.....He went something like 22.96 and Crocker went 23.14.....Does this suggest that Crocker's 100 fly World Record may also be in danger of being beat by the same South African?

Yes Roland Schoeman went a 22.96 to break Ian's record, yet Schoeman's fastest 100 fly from this year is a :53.93 in June. He'd have to drop over 3 seconds to approach Crocker's WR. Roland is dynamite in the 50 and 100 free, going a :21.69 in the one lapper, just off Popov's WR by :05. I'll venture to guess he'll concentrate on the 100 free more than the 100 fly; he's within a few ticks of Magnini and also is getting some competition from his country mate Neethling. Matt Welsh (an Aussie Backstroker) won the 50 fly at World's in 2001 if I recall---those 50's are hard to figure some times and don't always translate into a fast 100. The guy who won the 50 back in Montreal ended up getting ninth in the 100.
