Dutch swim star set for return at US Open meet Tue Nov 29, 2:52 AM ET AUBURN, United States (AFP) - Athens Olympic 100 metres freestyle champion Pieter Van den Hoogenband is set to make his return from hernia surgery at the US Open swim meet that begins here Thursday. The Dutchman underwent a hernia operation in early May following back pains. He was forced to miss the World Championships in July at Montreal as a result of the operation. Van den Hoogenband added silver medals in the 200m freestyle and the 4x100m freestyle to his 100 free gold at Athens. The seven-time Olympic medalist plans to chase a third Olympic 100m crown at the 2008 Beijing Games. About 600 swimmers are set to compete at the meet, including triple 2005 world champion Katie Hoff, a 16-year-old American who captured titles at Montreal in the 200m and 400m individual medley and could swim in five events. Ukraines Yana Klochkova, the first swimmer to win both IM crowns in consecutive Olympics with her Athens sweep, and Zimbabwes Kirsty Coventry, the 2004 Olympic bronze medalist and 2005 world runner-up, will test the US teen. ====
