Not sure if this is the right place to post, sorry if it isn’t. I am heading down to San Diego over the Christmas holiday and would like to get in some group swims. I was just wondering if anyone knows of a group that trains out of the San Diego/Coronado area. Thanks Carson

want to swim in the ocean? La Jolla Cove Swim Club heads out from the cove informally at 9, this time of year you should eb an experinced ocean swimmer but if you want to go, drop me a line. There's lots of masters programs too, what are you looking for? I hear the Coronado masters is good too.

sdswimmer: What's the water temp like this time of year? Do most people wear wetsuits, or go with just speedos? I thinking coming there next year and an ocean swim sounds fun.

The water temps have stayed a little high this year, still hanging in at 60-62 on the surface although its colder around Coronado. You must define "most people". The group I swim with mostly does not wear wetsuits year round. A few (generally the super low body fat types) wear wetsuits or aqua skins. Now among the general population, a large number of tri-types wear wet suits year 'round and I see others wearing wet suits now. So you can do as you like. Its easier to go with just speedos if you stay in the water as the temp drops. Temps tend to drop down to high-mid 50's but it depends on the year.

I guess what I mean by most people, is most of the people who swim there on a regular basis. Unfortunately, I am not one of those low fat body types. I do have my own personal wetsuit that I wear all the time, so it doesn't sound like a problem. Thanks for the info.

Hi Jim, Well hopefully I answered you. The tri groups swim there regualrly too. So you can choose whichever answer suits you. It can be done with or without (a wetsuite, we find that goign without any suit at all is frowned upon though once you are far enough into the water you can do as you like).
