Not sure if this question has been done on here before, if it has then I guess this thread will die and go away and that's cool too.
Most people are saying that the fact that you have to wait 30 minutes after eating to swim is an old wive's tale and it's not true. Well me personally, I get terrible cramps if I don't wait. I was just wondering if anybody else found the tale to be true and get cramps and how many people can eat and then immediately swim with no adverse effects.

It's all about the deli sandwich from Safeway and a litre of PowerAde about 15 minutes before jumping into the pool...

If you wanna work it, you gotta eat peanut butter. At least in my case...on one piece of toast, 45-60 min. before workout.
If I eat any sooner than that I feel sick. If I don't eat my usual peanut butter with toast, then I bonk about half way through.
I eat some kind of soft fruit, like banana, grapes or a small tomato, about 20 minutes before my early morning swim. That gives me energy for the workout, without any uncomfortable side effects. But one time there wasn't any soft fruit, so I ate a crisp apple. That was a bit too firm, and my gut started feeling a bit uncomfortable about half way through the workout. Another time I had a toaster waffle with jam on it - no ill effects but it didn't seem to supply energy during the workout the same way soft fruit does.
yes! fruit rocks! I don't feel like I need to wait nearly as long before swimming if I eat fruit beforehand.
If it's a morning practice, I need to eat something a bit more substantial about 20-30 beforehand. a good protein bar, or some peanut butter, or almonds or something with protein and a few carbs.. peanut butter and two bananas on toast work great!
