Jammer-Kneeskin-Bodyskin - what's best?

Back in the day it was just a plain brief papersuit for races. Now that I started swimming again there is a whole new breed of racing suits. I will be swimming ***, Back, Free and IM. I've heard the above mentioned suits are not good for *** stroke because they inhibit the kick. I have 2 questions..... 1) What are your experiences with Jammer-Kneeskin-Bodyskin suits and what strokes go well with what suit? 2) Are racing briefs long gone? Thanks for your input.
  • Swimmers used to use a light application of baby oil in the 80s - is this still used or beneficial and is it legal?

Have women been "cheating" by wearing a suit that covers their tops? Female suits provide the ladies w/ a "lift" that prior to the fastskin suits was unavailable to men. For me, that's the main benefit of the fastskin suits: a lift. I got mine on a clearance sale and have been very satisfied w/ the results. I used to be against them, but man, the first time I swam a meet while tapered, the difference was remarkable. Yes, I would've had a great meet no matter what. But you can see, while in the water, that water slips right off, thereby limiting drag. Once you get the suit on a few times, it becomes a LOT easier to put on. And it sure as heck beats shaving. No that is a tedious process. My recommendation: go to Speedo's site, and go to the "sale" page. You'll get fabulous deals there. I personally have a full leg and torso (no arms) and a 2nd suit that is just legs. The first few swims, I couldn't STAND my suit while swimming backstroke, so I bought the legs suit. Then at Nationals, I had a medley relay right after an event, so I didn't switch suits. Since then, I'm absolutely fine w/ the suit for any event. Buy small. The material will stretch.
  • "Buy small. The material will stretch." I was wondering about the measurements. I was thinking of starting with jammers and see how it goes. When I started swimming this summer in July I was a 34-35 and now am probably at 33. Would you reccommend going down 1 or 2 sizes?
  • What are the differences in the various jammers out there? Is the Fastskin2 jammer really worth the $$ compared with the other jammers?

go down. When I bought mine, I was around a 34, now I'm a 32. One suit is for a 32-34, and I easily could've gone down to a 30. My teammate chastised me for not getting a 28; I should've known that I was going to continue to lose weight. Oh well... My leggers are a 34; but it was the only size available on super-duper-uber special ($40 including shipping and tax!!). By the time I bought it, I was a 32; ideally I should have bought a 30. But I also can't stand feeling too restricted. For me it's not worth the nano-second I would gain (or lose?).

Men in the recent Olympics and World Championships were mostly wearing these styles according to stroke. Butterfly: Legs, jammer, or full body (no sleeves) Backstroke: Jammer Breaststroke: Jammer Freestyle: Full body (no sleeves) Medley: Jammer

Partly it's personal preference--I've heard some of the elite swimmers like the suits so tight they leave marks. I'm 5'11" and 150 lbs. I tried a large FSI bodyskin (sleeveless) and thought it was too tight around the shoulders; I have an XL FSII which feels great--snug but not too tight. Still challenging to remove when wet.

  • Nope, way too tight. I'll bust a seam. Feel like I can't get full breaths. decided it must go back for the XXL. What does someone wear if they are bigger than 6'2" 185 lbs?? I don't get it.

I'm 6'2" down to 193 from 210 - looking from the posts here it looks like XXL for me too.
