I used to smoke and had a unique way of quitting. I was ten years old and used to buy cigs and smoke about a pack a day... big shot George. I actually quit smoking after my mother caught my brother smoking when I was was 10 and a half.

I stopped on Dec 19, 1999. that is my oldest sisters's birthday. I smoked in high school and in college, and then occasionally after that. Both of my parents smoked and all 6 of my siblings. Now only two smoke. When I first went to college we were allowed to smoke in class. Now, at Knox, not only can you not smoke in any college building, you can only drink alcohol in your room and everyone inthe room must be over 21. That rule is broken at least once during spring term for Flunk Day.
Flunk Day. It starts at 5:30 am when the Friars ring the bells. Everything is cancelled for the day & everyone drinks & has fun. It is usually in mid to late April. It is opne of the best college festivals inthe coontry. No faculty come on campus & all of the students party all day. There is a mud pit, two rock bands (one at 5:30am), cook outs, and lots of booze. We had balloon rides one year. They became too dangerous because everyone was too drunk by the tiem they started. One year, my best friend's girlfriend got really sick. I would get a case of champaigne and save it for the day. We would walk around the campus each with our own bottle. I wouldn't let anyone take her to the ER at the hospital becasue my mom worked there & I was sure I'd get in troulbe. Truly great memories of college.
One note, Knox is ranked (I think) 73 by uS News & world Reports. It is very hard. Itis also thought to be where the saying "You may have gone to Knox college, but I went tot he college of hard Knocks."
Go Knox, Go Old Siwash, Go Prairie Fire!
My brother Bob lite one cigaret a day but smoked until he went to bed at nite, he was one of the top sprint swimmers in Canada, and was a great waterpolo player. I was at a swim meet once and he put his cigaret on the wall just before his race and as soon as he got out of the water he took a drag.

I never smoked a day in my life. I never found anything great about smoking cigarettes or pipes.
That's great that you never smoked anything in your life Sonic....This may sound a little picky....But I am a little curious as to how you can say you never "found" anything great about smoking when you've never smoked anything to begin with??

heck, I never looked.....
Easily the funniest thing ever written on these boards. I had to do a double take...
I never smoked during my swimming years, but since I quit at age thirteen for a non-aerobic sport (football lineman) it wasn't something that directly hampered me when like many I tried smoking through some pleasant experiences with the chronic (weed). Yes, marijuana does lead to smoking cigarettes! I was up to two packages a day when while riding the monorail in Seattle, I coughed up a small Martian & decided that was exceptionally gross & quit on the spot & never backslid. Has been 30 years, but for at least 10 years I would catch myself smoking in my dreams. Is that scary or what?
