I used to smoke and had a unique way of quitting. I was ten years old and used to buy cigs and smoke about a pack a day... big shot George. I actually quit smoking after my mother caught my brother smoking when I was was 10 and a half.

Don't smoke. Never smoked.
Sometimes, though, I wish I were a smoker.
My experience has been that very few swimmers smoke. I really can't think of any swimmers I know or knew that ever smoked, unless they are really hiding it! I'm actually surprised the number of former smokers is so high in this poll so far.

I swam 2 years in HS and 4 in college.
I smoked about a pack a day after I graduated college in 1975 until 1986. Started swimming again in 1989.
Came close to a lifetime pr in the 500 at age 50 in 2003.
