While I train predominantly on free, and hope to be competing mid-distance free, butterfly is my first love, it just hurts too much these days. As a kid I could beat all the boys at fly, I would swim my own age group and the next age up (eg when I was 12, I got to swim 12u and 14u events) to score team points.
Now when I hit the rhythm right, it still feels a more natural stroke for me than free. Perhaps I'm just weird. One thing I know for sure though is that I should train more on fly!
