Protien v. Carbs

When you're cleaning out the fridge after practice is better to get the protien or carbs? I find myself always craving protien after practice, especially a hard one. Does it make a difference to muscle recovery what you eat? Thanx!!

    I don't like eating anything right before swimming. I don't recommend taking a lot of protein before workouts either because it actually takes your body a lot of energy to digest protein and convert it into energy. So you probably don't want to do that as you are swimming. I tried to time it so that I get some carbs 1.5-2 hours before my swim.
