This afternoon, the pool where I am swimming was set up for LCM. Usually it is set up for 25 yds. I love to swim 50 meters. I smiled throught out the entire practice! This made me wonder if other peole enjoy different lengths.
I am what Mr. GoodSmith has refered to before as "Turn Dependent".....A condition that has worsened over the years too it appears....So short course is the main preference....I don't really care if it's SCY or SCM .....I want to swim a 400 meter race though in SCM (and an 800 meter as well)....and the closest analogue for SCY is the 500 (or 1000).....I'm not sure yet which one I prefer most between the 400 SCM or the 500 SCY.....But it's nice to have a different short course option in the 400 for middle distance events (and the 800 for middle distance/distance)...and still avoid long course pools like the plague!

p.s. The 200 fly is also much more doable (for me at least) in shortcourse pools rather than in longcourse pools....more opportunity to rest the arms and take advantage of a long glide from an underwater pushoff.
There are a couple of 33 1/3 yard pools at DisneyWorld in Orlando. One at the Swan (I think?) and one at the Dolphin (again, I think?) hotels.
I don't care what is available to me, as long as something (that I know the actual length of) is available to me. (Well, I guess 20 yard minimum, and that's a last resort.) So I chose not to vote.
I grew up training in the Crystal Gardens in Victoria B.C.; it was 50 yards long, all ornate tile work, palm trees, tea garden under a glass roof a la London's Crystal Palace. I miss it still.

The University pool down here is actually 50yards. It seems to be the standard distance for at least the Div3 races.
If the pool is 50 yards long I'm sure they either divide it with a bulkhead or swim across the width for meets. College meets are done in short course yards almost exclusively.

I bet no American held in a German prison got to use a pool!
I know that USA POWs in Viet Nam got to soak in cages that were partially submerged in leech-infested swamps...
If I were ever sent to prison for something, I would sue for a pool if the prison didn't have one. With a good ACLU lawyer, I'd probably win.
